Onam a harvest festival, is also known as the state festival of Kerala lasting 4 days; from Onam eve to the 3rd Onam day. It marks the commemoration of home-coming of the king Mahabali, and to pray to the fifth incarnation of Vishnu, Vamana (the Dwarf). The festival has several cultural elements such as Vallam kali, Pulikali, Pookalam, Onathappan, tug of war and many others.
The Malayali community at SIMS, brought in the festivities of Onam with a lot of fun and frolic. From the Onam sadya (feast) to the pookalam (flower rangoli) to the various folk songs and dance they had it all. They even enacted the story of king Mahabali and how the festival of Onam came about. Several girls even wore the traditional settu saree to get a sense and feel of the festivities.

Barcode 2016 at SIMS was a 3 day managerial event that tested the managerial momentum of the participants in every sense of the word. At Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies Khadki, the campus was transformed into a gaming arena with the competition that was ever more intense and matched by competency, skill and endurance. The first day kicked off with the SIMS National MUN 2016 which saw a huge participation from various prestigious colleges from PAN India. The SIMS National MUN had 5 committees this time which were, UNODC, Futuristic EU, UNSC, Historic NATO and UNGA which stood as a huge success. The two day BEST MANAGER event kicked off on 17th at 7 am which went on for 36 hours and ended at 7 pm on 18th September. The top 10 managers that were a part of this event were shortlisted from 320 registrations and saw participation from colleges like JBIMS, SIBM, SIOM, SIMC, Welingkar, SIMS etc. The parameters that they were tried on were live case studies from all four specializations and scenario studies and role playing. Not only were they judged on their wisdom but also wits as they were put through personality tests like roast your CV, dress as the opposite gender and scavenger hunt. The ultimate victors who sustained the test of time, tension and toil were Manav Agrawal from JBIMS, Mumbai and Raghabeshwar Ghosh from SIMS, Pune.
SIMS Barcode 2016 also saw tremendous participation in Managerial games such as Stratefin Conundrum, Interpreter and Smooth operator covering all four major specializations and also Simstreet which is a virtual stock trader game. Barcode 2016 had a total of more than 1000 registrations from colleges like IIM Indore, IIM Ranchi, SP Jain, JBIMS, MDI, SIBM etc. who were judged by a variety of eminent judges from different areas of specializations and wide industry experience.
The BARCODE 2016 team went up a notch higher and invited “Desi Punk Rockers- FIDDLECRAFT” band to perform at the closing ceremony of the Event. There was music, masti, management and mazaa all in one bag of managerial mantra called BARCODE 2016.

A cultural and a social celebration that started 3 years ago, Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most elegant and engaging events that is hosted at SIMS. Ganesh Chaturthi is symbolic with social unity and it is with this spirit of oneness that the festival is celebrated at SIMS. The celebrations begin with a zealous and an astounding performance of Dhol-Tasha to welcome Lord Ganesh followed by the Puja of Bappa. The day witnesses a multitude of activities including a street play by AKS and a DJ night and traditional food being served to all students and staff. Students participated in the celebrations with all their heart and flaunted the best of traditional attire for the two days that Bappa stayed with us. The following day, was a day to say good-bye to Bappa and the Visarjan ceremony of Lord Ganesh was conducted with the same enthusiasm, inviting Ganpati Bappa to return to SIMS
sooner the next year.

Since its inception in 1993, SIMS has indeed come a long way and has been successful in achieving its vision of being a premier management institute by promoting international understanding through quality education.
The Events Cell organised the 23rd Foundation Day. The Foundation day event was celebrated over a span of two days. On 8th February, games such as Tambola, fish market etc were conducted in the evening. On 9th February, a cultural event took place
in the afternoon. In this event, the three main clubs – Sur (Vocals), Vibes (Dance) and Aks (Drama) gave a splendid performance. The faculty, staff and students together played Antakshari as well. Everyone had a wonderful time.

Ganesh Utsav celebrations was held on campus on the 17th and 18th of September, 2015. The occasion was graced by Director Brig. Rajiv Divekar and Lt. Col Patil (Retd.) who were seen in traditional Maharashtrian attire. The occasion kicked off by the loud sounds of Dhol and Taashaas. The wonderfully synchronised loud beats played by the group could be heard by everyone in the SIMS campus and it made everyone dance and have fun. This was followed by the Rangoli and Mehendi making competitions. Lt. Col Patil carried the idol of Lord Ganesha to the campus for the “staphna”. The Sandhya-Aarti was a major part of the celebrations along with an energetic dance performance by vibes group and a street play by Aks group .

Running 5th year in a row, and superseding new heights of unparalleled success and by conquering the epitome of managerial crest, Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies introduced BARCODE 2015 with the theme ‘Ziggurat: An unparalleled Management Mastery’.Just like the ancient Babylonian massive structures ‘Ziggurats’ one had to climb up each level, to reach that ultimate management pedestal in our very own 36 hour managerial event “Best Manager”. It guaranteed a series of unimaginable levels, engaging the students in untested waters, pitting them against fierce rivals for continuous 36 hours and at the last unleashing the managerial mystique .The one who succeeded in this, walked away with cash prize of Rs 40, 000also earning the respect of
being awarded with the trophy of ‘The best manager’.
Transcending the set boundaries on 19th and 20thSeptember this year the managerial fest Barcode got even bigger and better with over 250 registrations from reputed management institutes like IIM- A, L, K, NMIMS, NITIE, FMS, NMIMS, Great Lakes, TISS, XLRI,SCMHRD, IMT-G, K.J. Somaiya and many more. The competition was sponsored by Forbes Marshall, Reliance Communications ,
Zoomcar, Endurance, HDFC, Red FM and other companies. The winner of the best manager event was Rohit Jaiswal of NMIMS and the runners up was Raksha Kumawat of SIMS.Barcode 2015 also saw various managerial events happening in parallel with the main event of best managerand this time it got bigger with new games such as “Conundrum” for marketing, “Interpreters” for HR, ”Smooth Operators” for operations , “Stratefin” for finance , MUN and SIMSTREET. Barcode 2015 was a big success .The contestants who came from far places were also very happy with the way the whole fest was conducted by the organising team and found it a good learning experience. Barcode also has a Facebook page with a lot of likes and photos. It promises to keep getting bigger and better each time it happens!
