“TATVA” is the flagship event of the Academic Cell of Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies that seeks to identify top managerial talent that the nation harbours. It is a case study challenge wherein participants craft potential solutions by exercising skills, knowledge and core principles of management. With registrations from a plethora of tier 1 colleges, the bar was set very high. Tatva 2017 had a business case study from our sponsor, Choice Group. On the basis of their proposals, 9 teams were shortlisted for the final face-off where 2 teams from SIMC emerged as winners.

As part of our flagship event TATVA, to mark the 25th year of SIMS, the Academic Cell organized the First Edition of Biblio-Fuel on 12th September, 2017 where student managers got the opportunity to review some of our favourite management books like Alibaba, Ogilvy on Advertising and SuperFreakonomics. The competition was won by Ashish Sawant and the 2nd and 3rd position winners were Ankit Hazra and Himanshu Dudeja, respectively. In the finale, participants gave an oral presentation of the book review with the help of a ppt which was followed by questions by the judges about their understanding of the book. Participants were judged on their presentation skills, interpretation of the book, knowledge, creativity, structure and vocabulary.

Biblio-Fuel, as the name suggests, is an event that aims to encourage student managers to enrich their lives with knowledge derived from books; books ranging from biographies of eminent personalities to those that take you on a journey of how business empires are built.

The Academic Cell of SIMS conducted N-Buzz: an intra-college news- room simulation game conceptualized to encourage discussion on issues of current relevance and help student managers frame opinions while developing verbal communication and research skills. The competition was won by Naman Jha and the 2 nd and 3 rd position winners were Abhishek Bhardwaj and Akshay Kumar, respectively. These contestants went through a gruelling preliminary round before securing their places on the final panel. Each panelist gave view points of the characters that they were allotted and were judged on the basis of their presentation, content, and performance under pressure,pronunciation and diction.

N-Buzz presents to the student managers of SIMS a stage to express their opinion on things that really matter; it is a debate where characters are portrayed and views are exchanged with vigour and gumption. It is in this spirit of debate, deliberation and elegation that this year, too, saw an overwhelming participation from our student managers.

The Academic Cell of SIMS conducted its first Informal Discussion Group of the season with an overwhelming response from avid student managers. It is a forum where student managers discuss, deliberate and express their opinions on issues of current relevance. The elected topic of discussion for the first session of IDG was GST : A Deeper Look into the Biggest Tax Reform. After a riveting discussion, our student managers seemed optimistic about the future of GST and hoped that this new regime will benefit all the stakeholders of the economy.

IDG as a knowledge sharing platform not only encourages intellectually stimulating discussions but also provides student managers an opportunity to absorb various vantage points.

The resource person for the session was Dr. Ishwar Kumar, Ph.D. (Management) from IIT Roorkee. He has been awarded with the Highly Commended Emerald/AIMA Indian Management Research Fund Award in 2010. He has many research papers published in international journals of repute.

His talk aimed at helping faculty get consultancy projects from the industry as well as fromgovernment organizations.

The Guest Lecture was chaired by the esteemed Mr. Anuj Ranjan, Deputy Governor of RBI. The aim of the session was to give an understanding of the role of RBI and its impact on a common man’s life.

The students had an opportunity to understand how RBI takes care of monetary policy, controls currency movements, its role as a regulatory body and the mechanism of monitoring banks in its supervisory capacity. Mr. Anuj discussed that RBI’s functioning is quite complex and it operates with a very dynamic and challenging economic environment. Repo rate, ALM, Global financial crisis, subprime crisis, controlling inflations were some of the areas of RBI role that the Deputy Governor elaborated on.

Tatva is the flagship event of the Academic Cell which is oriented towards stimulating the intellect of young business minds across the country. It is a two-day affair comprising of an intra-level business quiz competition called Quizzidi and a pan- India case study competition,which marks the grand closure of Tatva.

This year, Tatva was held on the 2 nd and 3 rd of September 2016 and received an overwhelming response from over 90 teams for the case study and 40 teams for the quiz competition. The selection process entailed 2 grueling rounds, thus providing a wonderful opportunity to the participants to expand their horizons and propose constructive and viable solutions in response to the case in hand. The case study was based on ground realities and actual problems faced by hotel aggregators in India by taking the case of OYO Rooms, sponsored by OYO. The judging panel consisted of 2 industry experts who evaluated the participants based on parameters such as feasibility of the solution, presentation skills, ability to answer questions, team work, content and structure of the presentation. The title sponsor of the eventwas Gig Turtle and associate sponsors included Nyati Group, Zodiac, OYO Rooms and
Fitato.

The competition was won by students of SCMHRD who bagged a cash prize of Rs. 30,000, followed by the team from SIMS who were awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 20,000 and the third position was secured by the team from NICMAR who bagged a cash prize of Rs.10,000. The winners of Quizzidi bagged cash prizes of Rs. 7000, Rs. 5000 and Rs. 3000respectively.

Mr Rahul Joshi and team are a frequent visitor to SIMS during the Orientation period.Various songs were sung by the speaker and on many occasions by junior student managers and simultaneously the speaker had various power-point slides running explaining how
music can be used in health management. The atmosphere was light and happy during the entire session. This session helped immensely and acted as a stress buster which was extremely required during the strenuous orientation programme.

Ms Yashashree Gurjar, the CEO and VP Avantha Foundation and visited the SIMS campus for a talk for the very first time this year during the Orientation Guest lecture Programme. Through this talk on time management Lt. Gen. K Surendranath pointed out the causes of common personal time management problems. He gave valuable insights from his experience with regard to time management. With these time management lessons, student managers can see better which time management techniques are most relevant for the respective situation. His talk on time management was aptly conducted during Orientation , during which students are bombarded with multiple assignments and limited time. His talk not only proved invaluable to the students then, but now as well as they try to manage time between classes, assignments and other activities.

  • Admission to all the courses and programmes at Symbiosis International University (SIU) are strictly on merit basis based on the criteria and processes prescribed by the University and assessment of individual performance in Symbiosis National Aptitude Test [SNAP] for Postgraduate Studies and Symbiosis Entrance Test [SET] for Undergraduate Studies.
