Vice Chancellor, SIU
Dr. Rajani Gupte, the Vice Chancellor of Symbiosis International University [SIU] , Pune has done her Ph.D in Economics from the reputed Gokhale Institute of Economics and Politics, Pune. She has more than 30 years of rich work experience in teaching and research at various prestigious institutes like Loyala College, Madras, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune. She has worked as a Finance Director for about six years for a business organization at Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh. She was a Founding member of Symbiosis Institute of Foreign Trade, SIFT in 1992 (now Symbiosis Institute of International Business , SIIB ) and was Director of SIIB from 2004 – 12 . She was instrumental in establishing SIIB as one of the leading B-Schools in India, and in starting innovative niche programs at SIIB in Agribusiness and Energy and Environment. Under her leadership, SIIB was the first Institute under SIU to start a Dual degree program with a German University and several active International collaborations. She has been a visiting faculty at the Oakland University, School of Business Administration Michigan, USA. She has also addressed Business leaders at Bremen University for applied Sciences, Bremen, Germany. She was appointed on the WTO cell set up by Govt. of Maharashtra, Department of Horticulture. She is a member of the International trade panel, CII, Western Region, She was the member of the Advisory Board, Chemtech World Expo 2009 – 2011. She is a UGC nominee on the Advisory Council of Kalasalingam University, Chennai.
She has published a book entitled “International Business Management”. She has participated in several seminars organised by the FIEO, Indo American Chamber of Commerce, Mahratha Chamber of Commerce. CII, and other Industry Associations.
Her areas of specialization are WTO, International Trade Policy, Non- Tariff Barriers, Subsidies etc.
Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar, the Principal Director of Symbiosis Society is a gynaecologist, who also has a degree in law to add to her qualification.
She imbibed the zeal for social and educational work through her father, Dr. S.B. Mujumdar. She has traveled widely to countries like UK, USA, UAE, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia etc. On these tours she has participated in educational fairs and has interacted with students and parents in an attempt to promote higher Indian education abroad.
She has also developed close contacts with the Ministries of Education in different countries. By Liaoning with these departments she is able to understand the specific needs of the youth of those countries. Under her administration at Symbiosis, these needs are then met and provided for, in an attempt to increase the comfort level of the foreign students at Symbiosis.
Dr. Vidya’s main interest is to carry forward the vision of her father, Dr. S.B. Mujumdar – by promoting international understanding through quality education. Being a member of the Board of Management of the Symbiosis Society and Symbiosis International University, she contributes to the overall planning and development of Symbiosis. She has been instrumental in collaborations of Symbiosis with some of the world-class universities abroad.
She has been nominated as member of University Grants Commission and a member of governing Body of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) by the Govt. of India. She has also been nominated as a member of Executive Council of National Institute of Agriculture Extension Management (MANAGE) which is under Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India.
Brig Rajiv Divekar, is a veteran soldier and an academician. He had a very distinguished career in the Army which included service with the United Nations in Somalia and Lebanon. He was a Faculty at Indian Military Academy, College of Engineering, Defence Services Staff College and Army War College. He has also done the Staff Course at Camberley, UK. He is B. E. Civil (Gold Medalist) and was Head of Faculty ‘Strategic and Operational Studies’ at Army War College and a faculty member in Defence Strategic Studies at Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. He has done M.Phil. from D. A. V. V. University and M.Sc. from Madras University. He has done his MBA specializing in Human Resource Management. He is recipient of the “Rajiv Gandhi Education Excellence Award”, “RashtriyaVidya Gaurav Gold Medal Award” and “Education Leadership Award”. In the six years of his Directorship, SIMS has been rated as one of the best B- Schools in India.
Brig Rajiv Divekar (Retd) is Director of the SIMS. He was Head of Faculty Strategic and Operational Studies at Army War College, Faculty member in Defence Strategic Studies at Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. He is a M. Phil from D A V V University and M.Sc. from Madras University. A Gold medalist in BE (civil), he has done his MBA specializing in Human Resource Management. He has rich experience of strategy, planning, logistics and human resource management based on his service with multinational team as United Nations Forces in Somalia and Lebanon.
He has served in Kargil and Leh on the Line of Control where he was responsible for the Logistics and Supply Chain Management of soldiers located on posts at 17000- 22000 feet in the Siachen Glacier.
He is a Paratrooper having done jumps from varied military aircraft. He has done sky diving, para sailing, water skiing, hot air ballooning and rappelling. He won the National Silver medal in 1981 in Coxed Fours Rowing event. He is an expert in construction of military bridges, demolitions, mine warfare, and bunkers and fortifications.
After 34 years of service in the Army, he left voluntarily and joined Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies as Director. SIMS is ranked among the top 25 B Schools in India.
He is a charter Member of the All India Management Association.
